A carbon-neutral website?

ThemeFlood is a member of COCO2, a company which calculates the carbon-footprint of websites and enables small companies to offset their carbon emissions. It was calculated that over a 12 month period, this website and users visiting ThemeFlood would produce approximately 100KG of carbon emissions. This has been offset by making a voluntary payment which is used for environmentally friendly projects such as planting trees, creating wind farms or investing in renewable energy projects throughout the world. In exchange, the ThemeFlood website receives free advertising, directory listing and recognition of commitment towards a more sustainable planet.

Environmentally friendly themes for RapidWeaver

Sounds a bit of a gimmick doesn't it? Actually through reducing the size of files within themes, slimming down the number of HTTP requests and by reducing the complexity of underlying source code, themes perform more efficiently with reduced bandwidth. Not only does this mean pages load much faster, but your web server and the computer viewing your website is using less CPU (power). Admittedly the difference in energy saved is negligible, but the performance boost to your website would definitely be welcomed.

Throughout the design and development of RapidWeaver themes, optimisation remains a key factor. It does not necessarily mean themes have to be dull or boring with less features -- it just means that more thought goes into the underlying code and development of new themes.
